Hello dear friends! Today we have gathered with you again in order to discuss and listen to some vinyl fresh. Fresh this time is relative, of course, the disc was released back in the summer of 2018, but, probably, the word fresh is still applicable, in the sense that the very first pioneering disc known to mankind was recorded about 160 years ago, then still on a paper disc with a layer of soot on it, and not at all vinyl.

A lot of time has passed since then and gramophone has evolved many times and underwent significant technological changes, giving rise to various outlandish formats such as magnetic audio cassettes and laser discs, and in recent decades, music generally appears before us in the form of metaphysical ones and zeroes.

And nevertheless, the good old vinyl is still with us and, apparently, is not going to go anywhere. There are several reasons for this, I think. This is the love of numerous collectors for colorful, unique publications, and the feeling that you are holding something valuable, real in your hands.

A person experiences a similar feeling when he picks up a book, preferring it to digital formats or some kind of printouts. But the main reason for mankind’s love for vinyl is still its kind analog sound, which no matter how hard you try, you cannot convey it through numbers.

Our today’s gramophone guest perfectly fits this format, and, to paraphrase the classics, if this album had not been recorded on a disc, it would have been worth recording on it.

Icarus Peel's Acid Reign — The Window On The Side Of Your Head

The album “The Window On The Side Of Your Head” by the British band Icarus Peel’s Acid Reign is a proud representative of psychedelic rock. The delights of its sound are not easy to describe in simple words. For example, listening to it gives the impression that you are listening to a live performance, and not at all a studio recording. Having a clear structure of the songs, the musicians gave themselves free rein and during the recording they made a very emotional jam, and also did not embarrass themselves in using various sound effects that were not quite characteristic of the genre.

All this, and maybe something else, gives the plate some special touch of liveliness. The recording came out original and imbued with the spirit of discovery and experimentation.

Just like the name of the group, invented by the musicians on the go, playing with words on the trip, their music is not conditioned by any strict framework and moves the listener into the space of dreams and gives the warmth and relaxation that you usually feel when meeting with old friends.

Some musical techniques, due to their outlandishness, may surprise at first, but, as for me, they rather add charm to the sound and indicate the openness and courage of the musicians. The subconscious mind somehow clearly recognizes that the guys are playing for their own pleasure, and this is felt in every track.

See you soon, friends!

Sincerely yours, Vynil Villain.
